Peace and Love- 1/2/10

I have a hope, a vision, an idea for this here particular blogging space. My goal is to try (and it is heavy on the try) to write something each day along the lines of a devotional. I'm not sure that I will be able to do this, but again it's a goal and I will try. So with that in mind I wanted to kick off the New Year, albeit one full day into it.

If you have by any chance happened to ever read any of the other things that I have written, you might have noticed that I have a pattern at the end of what I write. At the end of each entry that I make, I put the phrase "Peace and Love y'all." I was thinking about that phrase earlier and I wondered what it was that I was attempting to convey to people with those four words.

For starters, I "stole" the phrase from a comedian that I saw on Last Comic Standing a couple of years ago. I honestly don't remember the guys name, or else I would give him more credit. But he said it at the end of his sets and I liked it and decided to start using it when I blogged. The y'all simply has to do with the fact that I am born and raised in Texas and that is just one of the many phrases that we use around here. But with it, I hope to be inclusive to all who might happen to read what I have written. I hope that with that little contraction I can express to someone that I desire peace and love for them.

So what does that all mean? I confess that I usually don't really think about it when I type it at the end of what I've written. But this evening I decided to put a little more thought into it.

Peace- First of all, I hope for peace in the lives and hearts of those who may come across what spills from my brain. Jesus told his followers "My peace I leave with you." What did he mean by this?  I believe that what he meant was that he wants us to have the feeling of knowing that he is there and he is leading, guiding and caring for us as we go about our daily lives. That doesn't always mean that everything will go just swimmingly, but rather that we can know that we are in the hands of a loving and caring God and Savior. When we realize this, other things just seem to pale in comparison. It is, as Paul says in Philippians 4 "the peace that passes all understanding." This is the first thing that I want to mean when I use the phrase.

Love- Secondly, I hope for a flow of Love in your life. Again Jesus says in John 15 that people will know we are his followers by the way we love others. In Acts 2 the church is an example of love in caring for people and God blessed it daily. I believe that when we begin to express the love of Jesus in our lives through the things we do that the same will happen for us. When we love, we tend to receive love back. The classic "you reap what you sow" scenario. So it is my hope that in your life there will be this constant flow of Love.

In the end it is Jesus alone that is able to really grant us these two things, but in the mean time, I will continue to hope for these things to find their place in the lives of those who may read this.

Peace and Love y'all.
