Wow what a game that was between the Saints and Colts for the Super Bowl! It had pretty much everything in it that we could have wanted right? Good teams, big plays, drama and some risk taking as well. It was everything that you could hope for in a game like that.
In the end the New Orleans Saints were able to pull off the win thanks to three big plays, by three pretty much unknown players. Granted these guys are probably known to really die-hard Saint fans, but not to most of us who just casually follow them or just picked them for this game. The plays were an onside kick recovery to start the 2nd half by Chris Reis (who?) to give the Saints the ball, a two point conversion catch by Lance Moore (a reserve receiver) to make sure the Colts had to have at least a TD to tie the game, and a late interception return for a TD by Tracy Porter, whom the Colts had been more or less picking on all night. Those three plays were the biggest and most instrumental of the game I believe for helping New Orleans pull off this win.
It took the Saints 42 year to finally reach and win a Super Bowl. 42 years of frustration, of aggravation, of, at times, humiliation. It was 42 of hoping and praying that "this is our year" for those fans and players. In the previous 41 they won a grand total of 2 playoff games, this year they won 3 bringing their total playoff wins to 5 in 42 years. It has been a long, tedious, aggravating and frustrating journey for this franchise. It took 42 years for there to be a change in the life of this team. And it was brought about by some guys who have recognizable names yes. But the three biggest plays possibly in the history of the franchise came from the unknowns listed above.
Think about that: three of the biggest things came from guys that are not what you would call household names. The same thing is true for us I think. It is often not the big flashy "name" people who have the biggest impacts in our lives. Rather it is the people who toil in anonymity that often have the largest impacts. The preacher, the youth minister, they may be the people who are seen most often, but more likely it is the Sunday school teacher or the youth sponsor that takes time to really invest in our lives that have the biggest impact, are the game changers if you will. This is how God tends to work: with a man who was afraid to speak in public, through a donkey, through a young girl engaged to be married, through a band of fishermen, tax collectors, rebels and youngsters, and even through overly religious tent makers. God has always been willing and more than able to use the unknown and common people to have the biggest impacts. Peace and Love y'all.
