Searching for Treasure

On Saturday we went to get the kids in Frisco. We met there to see Mom and to go to that magical place where little girls act like, well, little girls: We went to The American Girl Store.
Wow is really about all I can say about it. We went because Boo and Puck had each gotten American Girls for Christmas, and Boo had discovered that she could get her girl's ears pierced at the store for a mere $14, which she happened to have from her birthday and other random reasons. Now let me stop here for a moment and say this: When I first got my ear pierced, I believe it cost me about $5 to do it. I'm a REAL human. It cost a DOLL more to get her ears pierced than it cost me the first time. Also, Mom was far unhappier about it being me than she was about it being a doll for some reason.

In this "magical" store there was everything a little girl could want concerning American Girls. There were new clothes and new friends. There were pets and there were accessories such as crutches, casts and wheel chairs. There was ear piercing and even a salon where you could have their hair done. That's right, for $20 you could have your doll's hair done in the Fashion of the Month, or you could pick any other fashion for a mere $15. Either way it is more than I pay to do anything to my own hair. Roni and I talked about this and how hard it was for us to see and participate in this rampant excess when we had just returned home from a week of serving kids who for the most part live in poverty.

As I walked around in the store and looked at all the things they had, looked at the prices for those things and watched people willingly put down money for this I was reminded a bit of something that Jesus said about our treasures.

What is your treasure?

Grace, Peace and Love y'all.
