The "X" Factor

Today at lunch I decided to watch a bit of ESPN. I caught the end of Sportscenter, and then one of my favorite things came on: X Games 16. I LOVE watching the X games. I mean for real, what those folks can do is un-stinkin'-believable!
To watch guys on roller blades doing jumps or flips when I can barely stand up straight; guys on skateboards flying through the air like it's nothing at all; dudes on bikes pulling flips and massive jumps; guys on dirt bikes clearing bars that are 25+ feet in the air and doing incredible things like double back flips. These things all amaze me and cause me to have many "HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL!!!!" moments. I won't lie, I think the X games are simply awesome.

The thing is, there is someone out there now who is watching these X games and will someday do even bigger, crazier, even more jaw droppingly awesome stunts on a bike, a dirt bike, wheels lined up under their feet or on a piece of wood screwed to 4 wheels. And while as I watch now I find it hard to grasp that there will be bigger, crazier, more jaw droppingly awesome times, those guys who are doing this stuff now will say "I told you there would be bigger things to come." And at that point we will understand and believe that there is always the possibility of that when someone believes they can do it.

Thinking about all this brings to mind the scripture John 14:12. Jesus tells his disciples that anyone who believes in him will do the same things that he is doing, and in fact they will do even greater things. Seems a bit unbelievable doesn't it? But consider what happened with Peter: People hoped to have just his shadow fall on them so they would be healed. And then there was Paul; people were healed when handkerchiefs and aprons touched his skin and were then placed on sick people.

Jesus did some pretty big, crazy, jaw dropping things. Then Peter and Paul and the other apostles did some pretty big, crazy jaw dropping things. Now we have a promise that we will be able to do bigger, crazier, more jaw droppingly awesome things when we believe in him.

Grace, Peace and Love y'all.
