Gorilla Glass

I read an article today that I thought was interesting. It was about something that was invented nearly 50 years ago that is just now about to see a big payoff. It's called Gorilla Glass and it was invented by Corning in 1962.
The place where it seems that it is going to finally be put to use is in the TV makers industry. The thinking is that some of the high end TV manufacturers are going to want to start using this for their TV screens as well as for other touch pad items (iPads, iPod Touch etc. come to mind), where the companies don't want to put a "frame" around the screen so that it looks cooler. So why is it then that a type of glass invented 50 years ago is thought to be the glass of choice for this? Because for all intents and purposes Gorilla Glass is pretty much unbreakable. It is "two to three times stronger than chemically treated soda-lime glass even when it is only half as thick. It's strength also means it can be thinner than a dime" which makes it lighter and saves on shipping costs. Overall, it sounds pretty stinking cool really.

After nearly 50 years of sitting and waiting for the right time, a use for Gorilla Glass has finally come to fruition. It took a long time for it to finally happen, but the company is finally going to reap a harvest from the seeds that were planted so very long ago. It's kind of like what happens with us when it comes to sharing the Gospel with others. There are times that we share Jesus with people and it feels like nothing is happening, that no one is listening or caring what we are living or sharing. But the thing is, it's not up to us to decide how what we share grows. Paul talks about how it is up to God to bring about the harvest, our job is to plant and water the seeds. God has given us each a job to do when it comes to spreading the kingdom. It is up to us to do that job and let God grow the fruit. Even if it takes as long as it did for Gorilla Glass to find a use.

Grace, Peace and Love y'all.
