Testing, Testing, 1..2..3

Yesterday I wrote about something that was invented in 1962 that is just now getting a chance to be used in a beneficial way. The product is called Gorilla Glass and it was invented by Corning nearly 50 years ago. If you missed out on the story behind this, then let me give you a little recap.
Corning has invented this glass that is two to three times stronger than chemically treated soda-lime glass even if it is only half as thick. It is very hard to break, dent or scratch this glass, which would seem to make it ideal for it's new purpose: to be used in high end flat screen TVs so that no protective frame is needed and it can look like a really cool piece of abstract glass art on the wall that all of the sudden has an NFL game on it. It took 48 years, but they finally found a good commercial use for it.

So what does any of this have to do with be a Christ follower? This glass is super strong. It stands up to a lot of abuse and doesn't get dented or scratched or broken. That is what makes it such an ideal candidate for making things like TVs and touch pads. Even when you drop it, it should stand up to the impact. It has, I'm sure, gone through rigorous testing, over and over again yet it has withstood those tests, time and again.

This is what faith should be like for us. Our faith should be such that it can go through various rigorous testing and yet withstand it. I will tell you that faith is not an easy thing at times. We would like to be able to avoid problems and tests and trials, but just isn't the way things go. We do have a couple of promises though when it comes to our faith. First Jesus has promised us that we're going to have trials and tests, but that he is stronger than all of them. Second, there isn't anything that is too big for God to lead us through.

So remember when things seem like they are getting crazy big and out of control, that you have some Gorilla Glass on your side. When we put our faith and hope and trust in God, there is nothing that can break us, no matter how many times or how hard we are tested.

Grace, Peace and Love y'all.
