Will He or Won't He?

So, big news yesterday in the NFL as Brett Favre has decided to retire...again...for the third time. We talked about being third, but this is ridiculous. That is NOT what we meant. For those of you that don't know (or even care) about the NFL and Brett Favre, this has been "The Story" for the last two summers before this one.
Basically what has happened is that Favre has decided that he was retiring only to return right before the season started to play one more year. It has become enough of a thing that this year's Super Bowl featured a commercial that poked fun at it:

Simply put Brett Favre has had a hard time doing what he says he is going to do. For the teams that he has ended up with, this isn't a problem. But for the teams that he has left, well you can imagine how they feel, being told one thing and then having another thing happen.

I don't know about you but one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone says they are going to do something, and then doesn't do it. They either get a better offer (in their minds) or they just "flake" out about what they said they were going to do. It annoys the poop out of me when that happens too.

Jesus, when he taught during his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) even touched on this topic. For him it seemed to be a simple matter of just not saying something if you don't really mean it. So here is the thing, when you tell someone that you are going to do something, your word needs to be good enough. There should be no reason for us to have to make an outlandish promise about how we will do what it is we have said we will do. Get in the habit of doing what you say you are going to do.

Brett Favre has retired and unretired enough times now that no one seems to really believe him this time around. My encouragement to you is that you don't let your words be meaningless.

Grace, Peace and Love y'all.
