So, big news yesterday in the NFL as Brett Favre has decided to retire...again...for the third time. We talked about being third, but this is ridiculous. That is NOT what we meant. For those of you that don't know (or even care) about the NFL and Brett Favre, this has been "The Story" for the last two summers before this one.

Testing, Testing, 1..2..3
Yesterday I wrote about something that was invented in 1962 that is just now getting a chance to be used in a beneficial way. The product is called Gorilla Glass and it was invented by Corning nearly 50 years ago. If you missed out on the story behind this, then let me give you a little recap.

Gorilla Glass
I read an article today that I thought was interesting. It was about something that was invented nearly 50 years ago that is just now about to see a big payoff. It's called Gorilla Glass and it was invented by Corning in 1962.

Slowing It Down
I watched this video this evening and wanted to share it. It came from Today's Big Thing and I thought it was pretty sweet.

The "X" Factor
Today at lunch I decided to watch a bit of ESPN. I caught the end of Sportscenter, and then one of my favorite things came on: X Games 16. I LOVE watching the X games. I mean for real, what those folks can do is un-stinkin'-believable!

Searching for Treasure
On Saturday we went to get the kids in Frisco. We met there to see Mom and to go to that magical place where little girls act like, well, little girls: We went to The American Girl Store.

God is...
What are our perceptions of God? How do we see Him? This song and video hopefully will help us start to think about how we view God, even our unintentional views of who and what God is in our lives.

The "King"
So last night on ESPN LeBron "King" James made his big announcement about where he will be playing next season. The big "winner" is the Miami Heat, who now have the Terrific Trio of LeBron, D-Wade and Chris Bosh. Already they must be getting the rings sized for the multiple championships these three guys are going to win. At least that is the hope.

Born Again
What does it mean to be "born again"? Does that mean that that you have to actually be born a second time? How is that even possible? Where does that term even come from?

The Longest Journey
Living in Texas, and growing up in West Texas in particular, I'm no stranger to long trips. We routinely played football games in high school where we were driving 2+ hours to get there. On vacations with the family, we drove everywhere. It was too expensive to fly and Dad refused to do so anyway.

After God's Own Heart
So today I was going thorough some of my emails and I encountered this and wanted to share it as at least a part of today's devotional.

A-political
I just today finished reading the book "Traveling Mercies" by Anne Lamott. It was an interesting book. I had known a little bit about her story and background and that was what had me interested in reading the book.

Who You Gonna Call?
Where do you put your confidence? Is it in the things you have? Maybe it's in your friends or family. Those are all things that make sense for the most part right? Maybe you're wondering what I mean by that first sentence. What I mean is this: When things start to get rocky for you-with school, at home, in relationships with the people around you-who or what do you turn to?

Party On
Have you ever wanted to be associated with someone else? You know maybe someone famous. Like to be able to say "Oh, yeah, I know so-and-so, we used to go to school together." Maybe it's more like you are the friend of someone who knows someone else that knows a famous person (or even semi-famous).

But I Didn't Do It...
Ever been in trouble? Has anyone ever stepped up to your defense when you were in trouble and gotten you off the hook? It's a amazing thing when that happens I assure you.

Are We There Yet?
I remember going to Missouri for a family reunion back in 1995. It was a good trip while we were there...then we came home. It's not that being home was bad. No it was the trip home that was the bad part. See I have this thing about trips like this. I like to go and be there and do the stuff that we do, but when it comes time to go home I'm all about getting home.

Here Today...Gone Tomorrow
So today I read Job 1. Job was a man of great wealth and influence. He had everything that he needed. Not only that, he was devoted to God and stayed away from evil. He even offered his own sacrifices for his children in case they sinned against God. He was a man that was on top of the world so to speak.

How Tight Are Your Pants?
I read an article the other day about snowboarder Nate Holland who was upset about some snowboarders in the Olympics this year wearing tight pants. The reason for his being upset is because it goes against the "anti-establishment"culture of snowboarding (which as you know is just like skateboarding, only on snow).

I Choose You
Do you remember being picked for teams back in elementary recess or PE? Or maybe even now when you get together with friends to play football or basketball or chess or the bagpipes or what not. Do you remember what it was like to not be picked first?

I So Hate Consequences
Welcome back to The Road. Or perhaps you prefer something along the lines of Willie Nelson: On The Road again. Anyway, those are just some pointless little banter moments that I typed and they have very little to do with anything else...other than the name of this blog is "The Road." Moving on...

From the Inside Out
I once was told something about myself that I think was supposed to be a compliment, but it sounded kind of weird, even though I understood what was being said.

On the Way Back
OK, so if you remember from yesterday, Zedekiah was the king of Judah for 11 years and he "did what was evil in the sight of the Lord." The result of this was that he rebelled against the Babylonian king and was eventually overthrown.

Choices, Choices
Man it's been a week since the last time I posted on here. Told you I was going to "try" to stay faithful to and everyday schedule, but it's hard to do sometimes. Oh well, let's get on with it.

It's the Little Things
Wow what a game that was between the Saints and Colts for the Super Bowl! It had pretty much everything in it that we could have wanted right? Good teams, big plays, drama and some risk taking as well. It was everything that you could hope for in a game like that.

The Spread Offense
Luke 4:42-44
So most of us know what the spread offense is. In case you don't here is a sum up of it. In football it means that you have your guys spread out as much as they can on the line of scrimmage in order to make the defense do the same and make it easier to run certain plays and get more yards and/or touchdowns.

I Can't Hear You
Jeremiah 36:1-4, 20-26
Has anyone ever come to you and told you something that you just didn't want to hear? Maybe it was that they were telling you that you needed to not do something, or change the way you doing it or something like that.

The Burden of Proof
"Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God." Matthew 3:8 (NLT)
Have you ever known that person that was all talk about stuff? You probably know the kind of person that I'm referring to here. It's the person that is more than happy to TELL you all about what great things they have done or can do, and yet you've never actually seen them DO these things that they are talking about being able to do.

This Little Light of Mine
Do you remember that old song? You know the one:
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Hide it under a bushel-NO! I'm gonna let it shine. Hide it under a bushel-NO! I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Won't let satan whufff it out, I'm gonna let it shine. Won't let satan whufff it out, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.Man that was a great song for vacation Bible school and children's Sunday school and stuff like that. It made a point and it was fun to sing. I remember doing all the hand motions and stuff like that and getting up in church to sing this song.

Hammer Time
I read a crazy story last night. It was about a guy who for 20 years helped to oppress a group of people. When the time finally arrived that the people rose up against the oppressors this guy first led his troops into the battle, thinking that there was no way the rebels could actually rise and defeat them. After all the oppressors had better equipment and probably more people (the story didn't say how many troops the oppressors had).

There's Grace for That
Well it's all over except the crying (if you were pulling for Texas). That's right the National Title game for college football is done and the Alabama Crimson Tide won their first title since 1992...that's a long time to go. They had an undefeated season, had the Heisman Trophy winner, and now are the national champs. It was one heck of a season for them.
The Past Decade
So I'm sitting here waiting for the water heat up for a cup of hot chocolate, listening to the rain outside and thinking about how cold it is out there and how bad it's going to suck to have to get ice off of windows in the morning. I'm thinking about what I want to write that isn't just a stream of consciousness. By the time I finish writing this and it is read we will be 7 days into 2010. That's crazy man.

The Fan
One of my favorite things is sports. If you know me, you probably know this little tidbit of information already. If not and you are reading this just because, well I like sports. Football and basketball take the top two spots for me, but really I like others as well. And I like them at just about all levels (no matter how painful they may be to watch at times).
Seeing Stars
Sunday morning we were sitting in church. A pretty typical thing for me on a Sunday morning really. In case you were wondering, Sunday was also the 9th day of Christmas.

Turd Love
I have three of the coolest, sweetest, most lovable and loving kids ever. Seriously, they are great kids. I love them to death and I would do everything in my power to provide for them and to protect them and to make sure that they realize how very loved they are by me.
Keep Plugging Away
It's late. Sorry about that, I've been thinking about what it was that I wanted to write and now it's late. That and I was watching the Alamo Bowl as Texas Tech beat Michigan State 41-31. All three kids are finally asleep too. Little Man sure had a LOT of energy tonight it seemed like, it was probably 11:15 at least before he finally went down. Roni is asleep behind me and I now sit here writing and drinking a glass of cold sweet tea (Red Diamond).

Peace and Love- 1/2/10
I have a hope, a vision, an idea for this here particular blogging space. My goal is to try (and it is heavy on the try) to write something each day along the lines of a devotional. I'm not sure that I will be able to do this, but again it's a goal and I will try. So with that in mind I wanted to kick off the New Year, albeit one full day into it.
